Miami, FL – Ka Be Contemporary is pleased to present From Color to Motion, Antonio Asis’ first solo show in Miami. The exhibition showcases the artist’s oeuvre from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. One cannot talk about Asis without acknowledging the history of both Op and Kinetic Art. The markings of having worked with fellow masters of these artistic movements are legible in each of the pieces exhibited.
The works featured in this exhibition are the result of a methodic study of the relationship between light, color, movement and kinetic vibration; a series of delicate and skillful artworks that invite the viewer to wander through this master’s extensive career.
Born in Argentina in 1932, Asis studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. In 1956 he moved to Paris, where he continuously studied and explored Geometric Abstraction and Kinetic Art. During this period Asis shared experiences and worked with artists such as Agam, Soto, Schoffer and Vasarely, among others. As a result, Asis created a strong body of work that epitomizes the roots of the aforementioned schools of art.
Asis has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, North and South America. Some of the artist’s shows include Lúmiere et Movement in Paris, France (1965), Cinétisme, Spectacle, Environnement, Grenoble, France (1968), Biennale Méditerranéenne d’art Contemporain, Italy (1983), and Los Cinéticos – Kinetic Art at the Museo Centro Nacional de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid Spain (2007).
Antonio Asis currently lives and works in Paris, France.
